On Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019, we will gather for the celebration of our Lord’s resurrection! The question we seek to answer is why did Jesus Christ rise and what are the benefits we receive?
“Christ rose again from the dead the third day by His own power; whereby He declared himself to be the Son of God, to have satisfied divine justice, to have vanquished death, and him that had the power of it, and to be Lord of the living and the dead: All of which He did...for our justification, progress in grace, support against enemies, and to assure us of our resurrection from the dead at the last day.”
This good news is taken from the Westminster Larger Catechism, Question 52, which articulates for us the truth of why we celebrate Easter.
Easter Sunday means everything to a follower of Jesus, since His bodily resurrection from the dead is the crowning proof that every promise of God rings true. The resurrection is also the believers’ victory cry -- "death is dead and love has won!"
As we celebrate together and prepare our hearts for worship, we are invited to reflect on the following prayer:
Almighty God, Your only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life. Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of our Lord’s resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Easter Worship will be held at 10:30 a.m. with our monthly fellowship meal immediately following in the Fellowship Hall (Entree is provided, please bring your favorite sides or a dessert).
**Sunday School will not meet on Easter weekend but will resume on Sunday, April 28, 2019.
